C’est un petit village de pêcheur, sans circulation automobile, où vous pourrez flâner dans les rues et, s’il fait beau, profiter des nombreuses terrasses donnant sur le port. Sant’Angelo est en fait un îlot tout au sud d’Ischia, relié à l’île par un isthme. Un immense promontoire rocheux vous permettra d’avoir une vue sur tout le village, un bon spot pour faire des randonnées dans les roches volcaniques!

Grâce à notre guide, j’ai pu en apprendre plus sur la formation de l’île par les éruptions successives de l’Epoméo qui on fait remonter le tufo des fonds marins. L’alliance des deux roches ayant permis à l’île d’avoir cette végétation si luxuriante et développer la culture de la vigne. De ce fait, même si l’on est sur une île, ce n’est pas de la pêche que vient la richesse mais de la terre avec la viticulture!

C’est sur Ischia qu’à été produit le premier vin d’Italie par les grecs et encore maintenant c’est l’un des meilleurs du pays avec ses vignes qui surplombent la mer et ses caves creusées dans la roche.

Où manger?

Pour faire une halte et se restaurer, nous sommes allé au restaurant Casa Celestino situé à l’entrée de Sant’Angelo. Le restaurant dispose d’une terrasse couverte donnant sur la mer et propose de nombreux plats à base de produits issus de la pêche et de légumes frais. Je me suis régalée par les plats qui nous ont été proposés: beignets de fleur de courgette à la mozzarella, salade de poulpe, bruschetta bien parfumée, moules,… le tout suivi par un délicieux plat de pâtes au poisson et coquillages. Une très très bonne adresse!

Qu’est-ce que je ramène dans mes bagages?

A Sant’Angelo ou à Ischia Ponte, on en profite pour faire quelques emplettes et ramener des cadeaux. Les spécialités de l’île sont le vin, les agrumes (citrons) et la poterie, l’artisanat traditionnel d’Ischia.
